"When the children of our world die needlessly and without hope, a piece of us dies with them whether we know it or not. And when we help just one to live, we find a small piece of immeasurable, indescribable joy."

LOS ANGELES, Calif, June 2, 2011 /WCTF/ — On May 12, 2011, the World Children’s Transplant Fund hosted its first annual Global Partners Dinner at the Sheraton Universal Hotel. Honored at the event with the Global Partners Award were two highly deserving recipients.

One was Carroll Shelby, the automotive and racing legend who has not only spent a lifetime breaking records and setting new standards in his field but has also dedicated himself, through the Carroll Shelby Foundation, to life-saving organ transplants for children.

The other was Dr. Vartkes Najarian an orthopedic surgeon who has not only had a successful medical practice but has in numerous trips to Armenia, been instrumental in the saving of lives many of them children. Most notably his humanitarian work for Armenian victims of the great earthquake of 1999.

Also recognized for their service were the World Children’s Transplant Fund Executive Directors from Armenia and Mexico, Maria Yeganian and Dr. Federico Mendoza Sanchez.

The dinner was emceed by film and television star Lorenzo Lamas.

Friends and supporters enjoyed a beautiful evening and were able to learn more about the work of the World Children’s Transplant Fund and its history of building capacity in life-saving pediatric organ transplant surgery in places where help is needed most.

The event, by all accounts, was an enormous success that helped solidify our relationships with supporters while producing much needed funds for the operational programs of the World Children’s Transplant Fund.

The Board of Directors of the World Children’s Transplant Fund salute our well deserving honorees and offer sincere gratitude to all of our sponsors, table hosts and attendees.
